[The International Style Of Wuhan]Dylan: delighted to work as an English language trainer in Wuhan

"In the past, many people learn English aiming to go abroad, but now, more and more people study English for self-promotion,"  Dylan Lee Davis (Chinese name: Di Long) said in a foreign language training school at Zhongnan Road of Wuchang District, Wuhan, in the afternoon of Dec 30, 2013.

Dylan, aged 22, is a half-breed of Chinese and American. He grew up in California of the United States and graduated from the University of Hawaii. Now, he is teaching English listening and speaking at New Oriental's Wuhan headquarter. Dylan's mother is a Chinese, and works as an opera performer. His father is an American, and used to be a bass player but now works as an advanced foreign language trainer in Wuhan,

"I came to Wuhan for self exercise, as well as to reunite with my father."  said Dylan. He came to Wuhan in August of 2013, and then started to teach English as his father. Dylan mentioned that when foreigners come to China, most of them will start their life as a teacher. In this way, they can have a better start and development.

Dylan said that compared with the work as a teaching assistant in the American university when he just graduated, he likes the job now more. When referring to the education system, Dylan confessed that he did not like China's college entrance examination. "The science courses like mathematics can be improved through examinations, but the arts courses such as English, Chinese, and Art can not," said Dylan. Many education training institutions in Wuhan are very open now, and America also has an examination-oriented tendency, he added.

According to preliminary statistics, among the students who are learning listening and speaking in New Oriental Wuhan, one third aims at overseas study and the rest for self-promotion. This institution also undertakes training work for the employees of many large-scaled enterprises in Wuhan. "More and more office workers come here to study business English". In Dylan's view, it is also a microcosm of Wuhan's internationalization.

The relative staff of Hubei Provincial Foreign Experts Affairs Bureau told reporters that it is more and more common for the primary schools, universities and training institutions in Hubei Province and Wuhan City to hire foreign teachers. By now, the registered foreign teachers in Hubei schools have achieved 3,000 people, who have made great contribution to Hubei's education in all fields, not only foreign language training.

Dylan said that although his stay in Wuhan is not long, but the city made a deep impression on his heart. Dylan has been to many scenic spots like the Yellow Crane Tower, Guiyuan Temple, and the East Lake. He was excited about the foreign food in Wuhan, like Italian cuisine, Korean cuisine, and so on.

Dylan didn't go out with his father on the past Christmas Day, but he thought the atmosphere of this festival in this city was thick and warm. "I know there are many goods are on special offer during this holiday." he said, laughing.

Dylan loves music, in particular, the Chinese and American classic music. "I was very happy with the Guzheng (one of the oldest folk musical instruments in China.) Performance in Hubei Provincial Museum", he said. He expected to hear more live and characteristic concerts and music performance. He believes that music can make Wuhan more attractive to foreigners.

According to Dylan's plan, he will go back to America for further education within two years. Because his father has settled down in Wuhan, he plans to come back to China after graduation. Then, he will find a job concerned environmental protection.
