1. CPC Central Committee issues regulation on selection of officials
The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee has released a revised regulation on the selection and appointment of Party and government officials, according to a CPC Central Committee circular.
Calling it an important intra-Party regulation, the regulation underlined the need to uphold and strengthen overall Party leadership, adhere to putting political standards first, and absorb the achievements made on selection and appointment of officials since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.
The regulation, which was revised to respond to new problems under new circumstances, is of great significance to foster a contingent of competent and professional officials who were loyal to the Party, had moral integrity, and demonstrated a keen sense of responsibility, according to the circular. 近日，中共中央印发了修订后的《党政领导干部选拔任用工作条例》。
通知强调，《干部任用条例》是重要的党内法规。这次修订的《干部任用条例》，坚持和加强党的全面领导，坚持把政治标准放在首位，吸收党的十八大以来党选人用人工作中探索形成的实践成果，回应干部工作中出现的一些新情况新问题，对于提高选人用人质量，建设忠诚干净担当的高素质专业化干部队伍具有重要意义。
2. China steps up protection of forests, grassland
China channeled more energy into the protection of forests and grassland last year, an official report showed.
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) cracked down on violations such as illegal logging in 2018 as a special campaign code-named "Hurricane No.1" was launched and fines totaling almost $250 million dollars were imposed in 183,000 forests-related cases.
About 207,000 cubic meters of timber and 175,000 wild animals were confiscated in those cases, and 15,000 hectares of forests and 863 hectares of national reserves were recovered. (Xinhua)
中国将加强森林草原保护力度
日前，中国全国绿化委员会办公室发布了《2018年中国国土绿化状况公报》，公报显示，中国去年在森林、草原资源等方面的保护力度有所加大。
公报指出，中国国家林业和草原局2018年开展“飓风1号”等专项打击行动。全年共发生林业行政案件18.3万起，涉林案件处罚总金额16.8亿元（约合2.5亿美元），没收木材20.7万立方米、野生动物17.5万只，恢复林地1.5万公顷、自然保护区或栖息地863.4公顷。
3. DPRK, US do not want to go back to past confrontation, tension: South Korea's Blue House
Both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US did not want to go back to past confrontation and tension, South Korea's presidential Blue House said Sunday.
Both Pyongyang and Washington saw that they had moved forward so deeply that it would actually be hard to go back to the past, the Blue House said.
The Blue House noted the South Korean government will make best efforts to help resume the DPRK-US negotiations as soon as possible in close cooperation with the US while encouraging the DPRK to stay on the dialogue track. (Xinhua)
韩国总统府青瓦台:朝美不会重走制造对抗和紧张的老路
韩国总统府青瓦台3月17日表示，朝鲜和美国都不想再次走上制造对抗和紧张的老路。
韩总统府称，朝美双方目前为了谈判彼此都付出了很多，让朝美关系再次回到原点对于双方来说都很困难。因此，韩国政府将尽最大努力与美国密切合作，以期尽快恢复朝美谈判，同时也将鼓励朝鲜继续留在对话的轨道上。
4. Ethiopians hold mass funeral ceremony for crash victims
Thousands mourned the Ethiopian plane crash victims on Sunday.
The service came one day after officials began delivering bags of earth to family members of the 157 victims of the crash instead of the remains of their loved ones because the identification process is expected to take such a long time.
Family members confirmed they were given a 1 kilogram sack of scorched earth taken from the crash site.
French investigators said Saturday night that they had successfully downloaded the cockpit recorder data and had transferred it to the Ethiopian investigation team without listening to the audio files. Work on the flight data recorder resumed Sunday but no additional details were given. (AP)
埃塞俄比亚为空难遇难者举行葬礼
3月17日，数千名埃塞尔比亚民众参加了为埃塞航空公司空难遇难人员举行的葬礼。
此前一天，由于遗体辨认工作可能需要很长时间才能完成，埃塞当局向此次飞机事故中157名遇难者的家属每人提供一袋重约1公斤的空难现场焦土，以代替遇难者遗骸进行埋葬。
法国调查人员16日表示，他们已经成功还原并下载了失事航班驾驶舱内的通话记录,并在未听取的前提下将相关记录送交埃塞方调查部门。飞行记录仪相关数据的还原工作目前仍在进行。
除此之外，法国调查人员未透露更多细节。
5. Paris cleans up riot debris as support fades for protesters
Business owners, city employees and construction workers dug in Sunday to clean up one of the world’s most glamorous avenues, after riots by ultraviolent yellow vest protesters trashed the Champs-Elysees in Paris to express anger at French President Emmanuel Macron’s economic policies.
Images of the destruction have shocked France and seem to be further eroding public support for the fizzling four-month-old movement.
Authorities and some protesters blamed extremists who come to demonstrations with the goal of attacking police and damaging property. (AP)
巴黎开始清理香榭丽舍大街 “黄背心”渐失民心
3月17日，随着周末“黄背心”抗议活动的结束，法国巴黎的店主、市政人员和建筑工人开始清理法国著名的香榭丽舍大街。此前，有抗议者在香榭丽舍大街附近进行洗劫和破坏活动，以此表达对法国总统马克龙所施行的经济政策的不满。
“黄背心”抗议活动至今已经持续了4个月，期间的暴力行为不仅让法国民众大为震撼，也让很多人放弃了对抗议者们的支持。
法国政府和一些反对“黄背心”运动的人士表示，一些极端分子假借抗议之名趁机袭击警察并毁坏公共和私人财产设施。
6. Rule of chess game's ancestor found in 2,000-year-old Chinese tomb
An ancient Chinese board game manual of liubo, ancestor of today's chess games, was first found in one of the most well-known 2,000-year-old tombs in China.
Thousands of bamboo slips, which were unearthed in 2015 from the renowned Haihun Marquis tomb from the Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220), recently confirmed to be inscribed with rules and guides of liubo chess, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Saturday.
The tomb is located in Nanchang, East China's Jiangxi Province.
Yang Jun, head of the archeological team responsible for the tomb, said that with the playing method, liubo chess can be turned into creative products open to the public. (Global Times)
汉代“六博”棋谱历经千年重见天日
《北京青年报》3月16日报道称，中国考古研究人员2015年在发掘江西南昌汉代海昏侯刘贺墓时曾出土大量简牍。日前，研究人员成功辨识出千余枚竹简上记载了一种名为“六博棋”的行棋口诀，属中国考古史上首次发现。
据了解，“六博”是中国象棋、国际象棋等兵种棋盘类游戏的鼻祖。
海昏侯墓考古队领队杨军表示，随着对棋艺规则的进一步破解，“六博棋”未来有可能重新回归大众。
7. ‘Captain Marvel’ soars even higher with stellar 2nd weekend
“Captain Marvel” has continued to dominate the global box office in its second weekend in theaters, leaving newcomers in the dust.
Walt Disney Studios estimated Sunday that the intergalactic superhero fell only 55 percent from its record-breaking opening. This weekend, “Captain Marvel” earned an additional $69.3 million from North American theaters and $120 million internationally, bringing its global grosses to $760 million.
In a very distant second, Paramount’s animated family film “Wonder Park” struggled with $16 million dollars against a reported $100 million budget. (AP)
《惊奇队长》连续两周蝉联全球周末票房冠军
由漫威影业制作的科幻大片《惊奇队长》目前在全球票房上的表现依旧势头迅猛，连续两周拿下周末票房冠军，将其他竞争者远远甩在身后。
该片的发行方华特·迪士尼影业集团3月17日表示，《惊奇队长》本周末票房相比首周末仅下跌55%，共拿下6930万美元的票房，周末全球票房更是达到了1.2亿美元。截至目前，《惊奇队长》的全球票房总共为7.6亿美元。
