  Preface

It is the year of 2013 and we dream of 2049.

Central China’s Hubei Province has set up the goal to build its capital city Wuhan into China’s core city and an international city.

What will Wuhan to be like as an international city? Foreigners have their own point of view. As more and more foreigners work and live in the city, they have their dream in the city's development.

Cnhubei.com recently has interviewed a group of foreigners in Wuhan to show the city from a common person's eyes.

Peter: bring green printing from Optics Valley to the world

"It is great to do the R&D in Wuhan Optics Valley", Peter Bennett said about his life in Wuhan in late December, 2013 in Hubei University of Technology. Peter, Doctor of Oxford University and MBA, is a 50-year-old man from Liverpool.

Peter once served as director of Kodak R&D Britain Department and helped Kodak win the Queen's Award for enterprises with digital CTP technology. He used to fly fluently to many countries as a printing consultant. But in 2012, he decided to settle down in Wuhan with his family for a new start. As the senior talent by Hubei and Optics Valley, he vows to bring top international printing technology to the city.

Peter always takes the lead in world printing technology from the PS version to thermal CTP and green laser plate-making while his many technical achievements have become the industry standard. Peter told us that the R&D of the latest Ultrafast laser green printing technology could date back to 2007 when he met the Chinese man Liu Dun, a Doctor in the laser industry from Liverpool University. They then decided to start business in China.

"I heard of Wuhan and Optics Valley from Mr. Liu," Peter said. "I am quite surprised to know that there were over 20,000 enterprises in Optics Valley with the increase of 2,000 annually during my visit to Wuhan in 2011", he added. Peter then founded a laser company to start his business in Optics Valley, aiming to grasp the preferential policies of OV as well as the opportunities of China's industry innovation. Meanwhile, as the employed experts of Hubei's 100 Talents Program and 3,551 Optics Valley Talents Program, Peter and Liu Dun set up Sino-Britain Ultrafast Laser Processing R&D Center in Hubei University of Technology.

The use of ultrafast laser and the improvement of printing plate making is initiative in the industry. Peter showed a model with this technology without the post-development treatment, washing and other operations.

Peter also introduced that his technology was environment friendly with less consumption of corrosive waste, chemical reagent, water, electricity, etc. "We are the only company with this printing technology," Peter said. It is estimated the sample printing machine will be invented in 6 to 8 months. "Upon its production, the technology will go globally from Optics Valley, Wuhan".

Different from fluent flyer around the world, Peter took his family members to Wuhan from Britain just one year after his stay in the city." Wuhan is a great city with lakes and rivers and I enjoy taking the tour around the city by public buses. " He has visited many places as East Lake, Moshan Mountain, Tanhualin, Hanjie streets.

"Liverpool is a city with a long history of football and I hope to go to the stadium to watch a football match by Wuhan team," Peter said. He met a man who taught in a primary school in Wuhan. “We chatted about foot and it is great that foreigners come to Wuhan as primary school teachers,” Peter said.

Statistics from Hubei Provincial Foreign Experts Affairs Bureau shows that it has issued 1,861 Foreign Experts Certificates in 2012. Over 100 Fortune Top 500 companies have settled in Hubei with 62 in Optics Valley. Hubei and Optics Valley show their increasing attraction.

Peter is optimistic about Wuhan’s future as the technologies in China and Wuhan are approaching the world leading level.
