[The International Style Of Wuhan]Adam: a dedicated volunteer teacher in Chunmiao Primary School

In early December of 2013, Adam opened a piece of paper in his dormitory in Huazhong Normal University, smiled and said, "This is a limerick from my schoolmate.I keep it preciously, because it always remind me of the honor that took me so far away. "
29-year-old Adam comes from Nigeria of Africa. After graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 2008, he came to China alone and entered into Huazhong Normal University, to pursue the Master's Degree in Sociology, and after which, he will continue to get a PhD after he finishes postgraduate study.
In his spare time, Adam plays an active role in helping others both on campus and in the streets and alleys of Wuhan. In 2012, he was listed in nomination of the outstanding personal award of the 9th China Youth Volunteer due to his service in Wuhan Chunmiao ("sprout in spring" in Chinese) Primary School for the migrant workers'children in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province.
"I loved Kongfu movies of Bruce Lee when I was a boy. I think that China is a country of mystery and beauty. "Adam said when talking about China, his university and the lovely kids in primary school where he served. " I started my role as an English teacher in Chunmiao Primary School since 2010."
He recalled his involvement with the school began in May of 2010, again during a television show. During the show, the children from Chunmiao warmed him. The headmaster then invited him to visit the students and some time later, after a long bus ride, the hopeful young man found himself touring the school grounds.
Adam was pleased to be there, but shocked by the badly equipped classrooms and poverty of the surrounding village. Eager to help, he offered to teach English.
He taught two lessons a week, instructing students from different classes and grades. Adam had a different way of teaching from his Chinese counterparts. In the classroom, he resorted to all kinds of gestures to encourage students. Outside, he started a conversation - in English - whenever he came across his students, to help them practice listening and speaking in a casual environment. His warm smile and heart conquered all his students.
Every weekend, Adam invited some of his students for a tour in Huazhong Normal University and they often cooked in his dormitory. "The academic atmosphere is good for them. It’s not only English language itself that I teach them, but also the hopes in living and study that will be beneficial to them in a life-long time." he said.
Adam likes the snacks in Hubu Alley very much, as well as the duck necks of Zhouheiya, a Wuhan local brand specialized in duck-related cuisine. Besides, a walk along the East Lake is also one of his favorite activities in spare time. "I'm quite used to the life in Wuhan and I already consider myself as an absolute local here. "
In March 12, 2012, Adam donated 5000 Yuan (816 US dollars) to Chunmiao School and set up a special scholarship for those students who are both excellent in character and in learning. Later, he was among other 43 foreign students who organized a "Huazhong Normal University volunteers team" with the aim of taking "action for public good". Adam said,"We plan to offer teaching services for the children of migrant workers and I decide to set roots in China and carry on voluntary education. I wish there will be more and more people caring and paying attention to those children."
